Landon Chronicles (1943): Kenneth on Furniture Rankings in the State Department (hour 67, clip 17)
Date:
1943
Description:
Such items as desks, chairs, rugs, and so on, were prescribed according to rank in the Department. "In the State, War, and Navy Building, which then became the State Department Building, the really posh offices for Assistant Secretaries and for political advisors or Undersecretaries would be very large rooms with high ceilings. All the ceilings were twenty-four feet up. What determined the quality of the room was its size, and whether you had a fireplace or not, and also a mirror. There were huge mirrors in the numbers one, two, and three offices, running almost from the floor to the ceiling. (Length 2;18)
