Landon Chronicles (1941): Kenneth on Broadcasts in Thai (hour 64, clip 17)
Date:
1941
Description:
Kenneth speaks of the Office of War Information that Donovan also set up and for which he made Thai language broadcasts. The original idea for the broadcasts came from the Thai Legation, as early as October, 1941, before the war began. Immediately after Pearl Harbor, the Thai government declared war on Great Britain and the United States. The Thai minister in the US said that the war declaration against the US did not represent the Thai people and asked that a broadcast program be set up to encourage the Thai people not to follow the government in war against the US. That was the beginning of Kenneth's Thai broadcasts. (Length 5:43)
