Christian Sociological Society (1973-) | Archival Collections at Wheaton College

Name: Christian Sociological Society (1973-)

Historical Note: Conceived in the 1970s, the Christian Sociological Society is organized to provide a forum and fellowship for Christian Sociologists and related professionals and students to enable them to integrate their sociological academic background with their Christian faith. The administrative structure is minimal with a coordinator and a streering committee. The society encourages original research from a Christian perspective and has helped bring together authors wanting to work on Christian oriented texts and in 1985 supported the formation of the Association of Christian Teachers of Sociology. Among the key issues identified are the creation of a disciplinary network to support the new generation of scholars and the development of interdisciplinary scholarship among Christians. The society publishes a newsletter that include book reviews, news of other Christian sociologists, their experiences and current projects along with notification of meetings with other Christian academic groups.
